How this calculator works
For each day you enter, the calculator compares your recorded sleep with your chosen daily goal. Days below the goal add to the shortfall, days above the goal add to the surplus, and the net difference is shortfall minus surplus.
This is bookkeeping against a target you picked yourself. It is not a physiological measurement of sleep debt, and it does not predict how you will feel or how fast you recover.
Questions about sleep debt
- What counts as an empty day?
- A day where you enter nothing is treated as missing data. It is not counted as zero hours of sleep, and it is left out of totals and averages.
- Does extra sleep cancel earlier short nights?
- The calculator subtracts surplus from shortfall, but that arithmetic does not mean the effects of short sleep disappear. Recovery is not a simple math problem.
- Is this a medical measure of sleep debt?
- No. It compares your recorded sleep with the target you choose. It does not measure physiological sleep debt or predict recovery time.
